Cargo! The Quest For Gravity Wiki

Cargo! The Quest For Gravity (Russian: Эврика!) is a 2011 role-playing adventure and sandbox video game developed by Russian game studio Ice-Pick Lodge.

It received a Russian, English and German physical release, published by bitComposer Interactive, Viva Media, and Nordic Games. It is also available on Steam.

Plot[]

Cargo! The Quest For Gravity begins with the arrival of Captain Borkin and mechanic Flawkes on the Hippo cargo ship, providing a delivery for the Buddies in the Archipelago. During the celebration of their arrival, a stray firework (propelled by a Buddy) crashes into the Hippo, sending the Captain and Flawkes to the ocean below. As Flawkes emerges from the rubble and ends up on the main island, she is berated by the Demiurges - three floating masks that roam on a rollercoaster-style track around the island.

Flawkes follows the Buddies around the ocean strait, creating a watercraft to help them ride around and produce FUN together. While making sure that the Buddies do not bring themselves harm, she finds ways to bring structures disrupted from a lack of gravity back to the Earth. One such structure is a large iceberg, which crashes into the water and causes a deep freeze, similar to an ice age. As the ocean freezes, large penguins crawl from the iceberg, and begin roaming around the archipelago, crushing Buddies as they see fit. After chasing the penguins away from the Buddies, Flawkes reunites with Captain Borkin, who tells her she must reverse the ice age. After constructing a submarine, Flawkes searches underwater for entrances to two volcanoes, which, with the help of the Buddies, begins the process of melting the ice. In the eruption, Flawkes is sent from one of the volcanoes on a large iceberg of her own, sailing down a rapidly warming river of ocean water.

Once she navigates the iceberg to a safe part of the archipelago, she begins constructing an aircraft to fly up towards a "FUN" production device, the Eggplant, to the chagrin and disgust of the Demiurges. It visually resembles a windmill, which she helps Buddies up to and allows them to fly around on the propellers. This eruption of FUN produces a large rainbow that spills into the ocean, which leads the Demiurges to lament about the failure of humanity and the setback the Buddies experiment caused them.

The production of FUN and further gravity-restoring progress leads to Flawkes discovering the Collider and the Earth Axis, which she quickly discovers will lead to the Earth spinning once more and restoring gravity in proper. As she rides her aircraft to create the air needed, she realizes she needs a stronger burst of air, and proceeds to summon comets from the sky. The comets create tornadoes, which she leads to the Collider and helps spin the Axis.

In the conclusion of the game, one of two endings can be reached, depending on how many Buddies were sacrificed for Flawkes to complete her tasks and solve puzzles. If many Buddies died, Flawkes and Captain Borkin will be turned into Buddies themselves, and become endless FUN machines. If few Buddies died, Captain Borkin and Flawkes will ride off on the restored Hippo, as the Buddies celebrate an endless fountain of FUN and the departure of the last remaining humans.

Development and Release[]

Contrast to the development of both Pathologic and The Void, two previous titles released by Ice-Pick Lodge and led by studio lead Nikolay Dybowski, creation of Cargo! The Quest For Gravity was primarily led by Ayrat Zakirov.
